The government is working to ensure the safe return of Indians stranded in Iran, with these two countries helping.

New Delhi. Amidst the escalating conflict in West Asia, the Indian government is actively involved in the safety of its citizens. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that special arrangements have been made for the safe return of Indians present in Iran. The government is assisting Indians who wish to leave Iran. To this end, arrangements are being made to bring people safely out via Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian Embassy in Tehran is fully operational and operating on high alert. The Embassy is in constant contact with Indian students, pilgrims, and other citizens. Those wishing to leave Iran are being sent by land to Armenia and Azerbaijan, from where they can return to India via commercial flights.

How many Indians are present in Iran?
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, approximately 9,000 Indian citizens are present in Iran. These include a large number of students and pilgrims. The government stated that many Indians have already returned home following the government’s advisory. Constant contact is being maintained with the remaining citizens to ensure their safe return if necessary.

What security arrangements has the government made?
The government stated that some students and visitors have been relocated to various cities in Iran for security reasons. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also set up a control room, which operates 24 hours a day. Here, family members can receive information and seek assistance from authorities via phone or email.

Why is the safety of Indians in Gulf countries important?
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, approximately 10 million Indians live in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The government has stated that the safety of all these Indians is its top priority. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are in constant touch with various leaders in the region and are emphasizing the safety of the Indian community.

What losses have Indians suffered in the conflict?
The government stated that two Indian citizens were killed and one is missing in the recent incidents. All three were on a merchant ship that was attacked. Additionally, several Indians were injured, one in Israel and one in Dubai. Both are receiving treatment and the Indian Embassy is in touch with them.
