‘Patriot’ in Iran-US war Ukraine’s security is under threat; Will Russia get a big chance?

Patriot Missile Shortage Ukraine: The ongoing war between Iran and America has now turned into a strategic chess game, where the moves of one piece affect the other front. The direct impact of this war is visible on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict in Europe. The US and its allies are deploying a large number of ‘Patriot’ Air defense missiles are being spent due to which the arms supply to Ukraine is in danger.

surprising figures

The data released by the Defense Ministry of Ukraine has worried international experts. According to the report, about 600 interceptor missiles were fired from the Patriot system in about 1460 days of war against Russia. In contrast, around 800 interceptor missiles have been used to stop Iran’s attacks within just 3 days. Iran has so far fired 1,475 drones, 262 ballistic missiles and 8 cruise missiles, to destroy which the US has had to make extensive use of its Patriot and THAAD systems.

Questions on Ukraine’s defense capability

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also expressed deep concern about this shortage of missiles. European officials fear that if the stockpile of Patriot missiles continues to deplete, Russia will get a golden opportunity to launch major attacks on Ukraine’s cities and energy infrastructure. Experts believe that if America’s attention focuses completely on the Middle East, then the pressure of negotiations on Russia will reduce and it can strengthen its position in the war.

Challenge of increasing production

In view of the shortage of missiles, American defense company Lockheed Martin has set a target of increasing the production of Patriot missiles from 600 to 2,000 annually. However, experts say it may take several years to take production capacity to this level. Until then, this huge gap between demand and supply of arms is likely to persist which could prove suicidal for Ukraine.
