JKCA scam: Non-bailable warrant on Farooq Abdullah withdrawn by CJM Srinagar
The Chief Judicial Magistrate court of Srinagar on Thursday withdrew the non-bailable warrant issued against former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in the Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam case. The decision came after a warrant was issued just hours earlier, after the deadly attack on him a day earlier seriously affected his health.
The court had issued the warrant as Abdullah neither appeared in person nor through video conferencing. But considering the petition of his lawyer Ishtiaq Khan, the court reversed the decision. The petition said that after the attack, medical experts have imposed a complete ban on travel.
Khan said the physical and mental trauma had worsened Abdullah’s pre-existing conditions—blood pressure fluctuations and heart problems. Air or road travel between Jammu and Srinagar could prove fatal. They have been kept under strict monitoring and security protocols.
Earlier, the court had rejected the demand for exemption from appearance of Abdullah and co-accused Manzoor Ghazanfar Ali. CBI has filed a charge sheet against Farooq Abdullah along with Ahsan Ahmed Mirza, Mohammad Salim Khan and Bashir Ahmed Misgar accusing them of embezzlement worth crores.
Investigation into misuse of cricket development funds is underway in JKCA. The court’s move could prove crucial in taking the case forward, which exposes the corruption prevalent in the region’s sports institutions.
