Sunrisers Betrayal Will Prove Costly Fans Angry After Buying Pakistani Player

Indian cricket fans are angry after Sunrisers Hyderabad, a franchise included in ‘The Hundred’, bought a Pakistani player at a huge bid. Franchise owner Kavya Maran is facing heavy criticism. Sunrisers Leeds’ X account was also suspended on Thursday (March 12), just hours after buying Abrar Ahmed in the auction. However, X has not given any official explanation on the reason behind this suspension.

Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed was bought by Sunrisers Leeds for 190,000 pounds (about Rs 2.34 crore) in ‘The Hundred’ auction. With this, he became the first Pakistani cricketer to be a part of an Indian-owned franchise in this tournament. After this decision, many Indian fans expressed their displeasure on social media. Some users criticized the decision, citing the existing political tensions between the two countries.

The franchise and its co-owner Kavya Maran also faced criticism on social media. Many users also started a trend on the platform calling for a boycott of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Sunrisers Hyderabad.

When users tried to open a Sunrisers Leads account, they saw a message from X that read, “Account has been suspended. However, it was not made clear due to which rule violation the account was suspended.

Many players of Pakistan remain without buyers in the auction. The reason behind this was that four out of eight league teams in ‘The Hundred’ are owned by Indian industrialists. These four teams had unannouncedly refrained from buying any Pakistani player in the auction, due to which Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf, off-spin all-rounder Saim Ayub and spinner Shadab Khan did not get any team. The impact of the boycott on Pakistan was such that experienced left arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi had already distanced himself from this auction.

In the women’s category ‘The Hundred’ auction, two Pakistani players Fatima Sana and Sadia Iqbal also failed in the auction.

Let us tell you that Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed is not liked by Indian cricket fans because of spreading hatred against India and making lewd comments. Abrar Ahmed is also said to be an open supporter of terrorism against India. After this action of Sunrisers, all eyes are on what they will show to the Indian fans in IPL.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was bought by Birmingham Phoenix for 100,000 pounds (about Rs 1.23 crore). It is noteworthy that Rahman was earlier released by IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders following the instructions of BCCI.
