In response to the shortage of commercial cooking gas, HCLTech has allowed employees at its Chennai office to work from home for two days. The temporary measure aims to manage disruptions caused by the shortage, particularly in office cafeteria operations.
Why HCL Allowed Work From Home
The decision was taken after a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders disrupted food services inside the company’s campus. Cafeteria vendors reportedly struggled to operate because they could not access sufficient cooking gas to prepare meals for employees.
As a result, HCLTech offered employees the option to work remotely on March 12 and March 13ensuring that daily operations continued smoothly while avoiding inconvenience for staff who rely on office food facilities.
The move reflects how even basic infrastructure issues such as fuel supply can impact workplace operations in large corporate campuses.
LPG Shortage Triggered by Global Tensions
The LPG shortage in India has been linked to disruptions in global energy supply chainsparticularly due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia involving countries such as Iran, Israel, and the United States.
