Bangkok has topped the list of “Best Cities in Asia 2026” in a readers’ poll conducted by the luxury travel magazine DestinAsian.

Tokyo of Japan came in second, followed by Singapore.

Bangkok secured the top position thanks to four standout strengths, Ekavaranyu Amrapal, spokesman for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration announced on March 9.

The city’s first strength is its blend of tradition and modernity. Historic temples and floating markets coexist with upscale shopping malls and modern skyscrapers, creating an urban landscape that reflects both cultural heritage and rapid development.

Second is its diverse and high-quality culinary scene. From world-famous street food to fine-dining establishments led by innovative chefs, Bangkok offers visitors a wide range of gastronomic experiences that have earned international acclaim.

The third factor is the city’s rich and varied tourism offerings. Bangkok caters to different types of travellers with luxury hotels and high-end resorts, contemporary art spaces, historic neighborhoods, and a lively nightlife that keeps the city active well after dark.

The final element contributing to Bangkok’s appeal is its hospitality and welcoming atmosphere, reinforcing its reputation as the “Capital of Smiles.”

Bangkok was named the No.1 city worldwide for international arrivals after it welcomed 30.3 million visitors last year, according to global market research company Euromonitor International.
