No one has been able to break Chris Gayle’s 13 year old record in IPL yet, know whether 2026 will become something special?

New Delhi: The excitement of IPL 2026 is going to start this month. BCCI has confirmed that the first match of the season will be played on March 28 between RCB vs Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bengaluru. Before the new season, it is important to remind cricket fans of some records which have not been broken for years and may remain so in the times to come. The biggest name among these is the explosive performance of Chris Gayle, which is the biggest individual innings in IPL history.

RCB vs Pune Warriors in 2013: Gayle broke records

In the 31st match of IPL 2013, there was a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pune Warriors. Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan, who came to open, started the innings. Gayle just created a storm. He kept hitting boundaries and sixers, while Dilshan kept supporting at the other end.

RCB’s first wicket fell in the 14th over, when the score had reached 167. Dilshan was out after scoring 33 runs, but Gayle did not stop. He played an unbeaten inning of 175 runs, in just 66 balls! In this innings he hit 13 fours and 17 sixes. The strike rate was 265.15. This inning became the highest individual score not only in IPL but also in T20 cricket and remains intact even today.

Even after 175 no one reached!

After this inning of Gayle, many big scores were made in IPL, but till now no one has been able to break the record of 175*. The second highest score is Abhishek Sharma’s 141 runs (in 55 balls), which was played for SRH in the chase against PBKS in IPL 2025. This is the third highest score and the highest among Indian batsmen. But still 34 runs away from Gayle’s 175*!

Top IPL individual scores (so far)

– Chris Gayle: 175 (66 balls, RCB vs PWI, 2013)
– Abhishek Sharma: 141 (55 balls, SRH vs PBKS, 2025)
– Other big names like Quinton de Kock (140), AB de Villiers (133) etc., but no one came close to Gayle.

13 years have passed, but this record is still “unbroken”. Will any batsman be able to repeat this charisma in IPL 2026? Or will Gayle’s name remain on top forever? This question will become deeper with every match in the new season.
