Now ask questions directly to Google Maps, new AI feature ‘Ask Maps’ will answer immediately

If you are planning to go to a new place and are not able to understand which route is better or where to find good places to eat and drink on the way, then now it is going to be easier than ever to find the answer. Tech company Google has added a new artificial intelligence feature to its popular navigation app Google Maps.

The name of this feature is “Ask Maps”, which will allow users to ask questions in a conversational manner within the app and get instant answers. This new tool has been prepared with the help of the company’s advanced AI model Gemini AI. Its objective is to provide information related to places to people in a fast and easy way.

How did Google Maps work earlier?

Till now the method of finding a place in Google Maps was quite simple. Users would type the name of a place or a keyword, then look at the options that appeared and choose the place as per their need. However, sometimes people’s questions are a bit complex, such as what facilities will be available on the way or which route will be faster. Earlier it was difficult to get direct answers to such questions.

‘Ask Maps’ will change the way

With the introduction of the new “Ask Maps” feature, users will be able to ask questions in normal language, just like they would ask a friend. This feature has the ability to understand and answer multiple needs in a single question. Suppose someone is planning to go to Connaught Place.

He may ask whether it would be better to go by car or by metro to reach there. Along with this he can also ask where a good place can be found to drink coffee on the way. In such a situation, the app will give suggestions to the user by giving information about traffic conditions, estimated travel time and places like nearby cafes.

Answers will be found from data from millions of places

According to Google, the answers of this feature are prepared on the basis of the same data which is already present in Google Maps. Information about more than 30 crore places around the world is available in this platform. Apart from this, more than 50 crore people keep sharing reviews, photos and updates continuously. With the help of this information, AI is able to give better and accurate suggestions.

Now even complex questions will get answers

With the use of Gemini AI, Google Maps can now understand even such questions which earlier seemed difficult. For example, users can ask where a public toilet is nearby, where to find a quick mobile phone charging point, or where a good restaurant is to their liking. The AI system analyzes reviews, photos and other available information to answer these questions and then provides appropriate suggestions to the user.

According to the company, if some friends are coming from different areas, then they can also find a vegetarian restaurant in the middle area where the seating area is comfortable and there is enough space for the group in the evening. In such cases, the app will try to suggest better options by looking at people’s opinions, ratings and other details. Along with this, it can also be told which place has the easiest parking facility.

New feature started in India also

Google has currently launched the “Ask Maps” feature in the United States and India. This facility is available on both Android and iOS smartphones. At present this feature has been started in English language. The company says that in the coming time, support for other languages will also be added to it, in which Hindi may also be included.

In future, there is a plan to make it available in computer i.e. desktop version also. With this new feature, Google Maps will not just be a wayfinding app, but it will work like a smart digital guide that will be able to answer many travel related needs at one place.
