‘I’ll Be Back’ teaser released! Imtiaz Ali’s heart-touching story on the partition of 1947
Well-known Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali released the teaser and poster of his upcoming film *I Will Return* on March 13, 2026. Through this film, he promises to present a very passionate love story between two different generations, set against the backdrop of the partition of 1947. With the film releasing in theaters on June 12, 2026, Imtiaz Ali once again collaborates with composer A.R. Rahman and lyricist Irshad Kamil are coming together with a unique tale of love, memories and unbreakable relationships. The teaser focuses on an elderly man (Naseeruddin Shah) who, from his death bed, shares a heart-touching love story of 78 years with his attentively listening grandson (Diljit Dosanjh). Through photographs, vintage films, and heart-touching music, this story connects the past and present—comparing the lush wheat fields, stately mansions, and vintage trains of pre-Partition times with the tender moments of today. In the flashbacks, Sharvari Wagh plays the old man’s youthful love, while Vedang Raina is seen in an important supporting role. Diljit plays both the present-day grandson and the younger version of his grandfather.
At its core, *I’ll Be Back* delves into the unbreakable promise of love across time, borders and tragedies, epitomized by the film’s title: “I’ll Be Back.” Imtiaz Ali said, “Can love really be lost? Can one’s heart be robbed of one’s home? The greatest story of this century is one of migration… What remains is that initial feeling of love, which was so personal that it could not be shared with anyone. The memories of who we love and where we belong remain with us forever.”
Producer Sameer Nair (Applause Entertainment) praised Ali as a unique storyteller who is capable of creating a deep emotional impact on the audience; This aligns with his company’s goal of promoting powerful cinematic stories. Made under the banner of Applause Entertainment and Window Seat Films, the film is inspired by the true stories of Partition, offering a deep blend of grandeur, history and human emotions.
