Controversy over Badshah’s new song: Haryana Women Commission takes action
Badshah caught in controversy in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: Famous Bollywood rapper and singer Badshah is now embroiled in a serious controversy. Haryana State Women Commission has taken strict action regarding the lyrics and video of her recent Haryanvi song ‘Tatihari’. Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia had directed Badshah to appear in person by 3 pm on Friday, but he did not appear. After this, the Commission ordered the Superintendents of Police of Panchkula and Panipat to immediately arrest Badshah and confiscate his passport.
Notice and legal action
Notice issued on 6 March
Renu Bhatia clarified that Badshah’s passport should be confiscated so that he cannot flee the country. The commission had sent a notice to Badshah on March 6, asking him to appear before the Panipat SP office and give clarification on the objectionable lyrics of the song and the shots of girls. Badshah’s three lawyers cited busy schedules and security concerns for the appearance.
The lawyers sought extension of time and hearing through video conferencing, but the commission rejected it. The lawyers said that Badshah has already apologized in the video and he is not a criminal, but brings glory to Haryana. But the Chairperson said that it is mandatory to appear in person at the summons. As the controversy escalated, three separate cases have been registered against Badshah in Panchkula and Jind.
Response of social organizations
Khap Panchayats and various social organizations have demanded a complete ban on the song. He says that women and minors have been presented in the song from an objectivist perspective, which is against Haryanvi culture and dignity. Haryana Police has registered an FIR and issued notices to remove the video of the song and is preparing to issue Lock Out Circular (LOC).
Badshah had released a video on social media saying that he feels proud to be a Haryanvi, but sometimes mistakes are made. He had apologized, but the controversy has increased further. People on social media are divided into two camps – some consider it creative freedom, while others call it obscene and offensive. This matter has now turned into a legal battle. It will be interesting to see what happens next for Badshah. Such controversies often happen in Bollywood and music industry, but this time the strictness of Haryana has taken it to a new level.
