Rohini zone removed 407.25 metric tons of debris under Dust Free Delhi campaign

New Delhi . Under the Dust Free Delhi campaign, Rohini zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified efforts for cleanliness and dust pollution control. According to Rohini Zone Deputy Commissioner Rishita Gupta, cleaning and dust control activities are being conducted on a war footing in the entire zone.

During the special campaign conducted from March 7 to March 12, Rohini zone has recorded remarkable progress at the ground level. A total of 407.25 metric tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste was removed in the last six days, which is almost ten times more than on normal days.

Apart from this, sanitation teams have removed 81 metric tons of legacy waste from two railway tracks between Peeragarhi to Nangloi and Badli to Siraspur crossing. This is about 45 percent of the total estimated 173 metric tons of waste.

To control dust pollution, 89.75 metric tonnes of road dust was removed with the help of four mechanical road sweeping machines in Rohini zone. Besides, 11 sprinklers, anti-smog guns and jetting machines have also been deployed for effective dust control on major roads.

A special cleaning campaign is being conducted by the zone administration on major routes including Outer Ring Road and LG Corridor and additional cleaning staff have been deployed.

For effective monitoring of the campaign, senior officials have been appointed ward-wise nodal officers and twice a day reporting system has been implemented. Along with this, teams of officers of various departments have also been formed at ward level for better coordination.

Deputy Commissioner Rishita Gupta said that regular review meetings and frequent field inspections are being conducted with nodal officers, DEMS and field staff of maintenance department to ensure timely cleaning of secondary collection points, proper disposal of solid waste, removal of dumped debris and effective cleaning of roads.
