Don’t panic and book the cylinder! Government’s appeal
Due to discussions about possible shortage of LPG cylinders across the country, an atmosphere of panic has started creating among the citizens. However, the Central Government has said that the situation is completely under control. According to the government, LPG production in the country has been increased by about 30 percent since March 5 and people have been appealed not to panic and book large quantities of cylinders.
Officials of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that all the refineries of the country have been instructed to increase production. Special steps are being taken to maintain the supply of LPG for domestic use. At present there is no absolute shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG in the country and no “dry-out” situation has arisen at any distribution point.
The ongoing conflict between America, Israel and Iran has affected the energy supply routes of West Asia. In particular, the Strait of Hormuz is a very important route for India, because a large part of India’s LPG imports come through this route.
In this background, rumors about cylinder shortage started spreading across the country and people started advance booking in large numbers. Due to this panic, long queues were seen outside LPG agencies in many cities. Due to increased pressure on the booking system at some places, technical problems were also seen in the app, IVRS and other online mediums.
To keep the situation under control, the Central Government has instructed refineries to increase LPG production. It has been decided to completely divert the production of hydrocarbon components like propane and butane to domestic LPG supply. Due to this there has been a significant increase in production in a short time.
Apart from this, priority in supply of available LPG is being given to domestic consumers, while limits have been imposed for commercial use at some places.
The government has clarified that adequate stocks of LPG are available and the supply chain is functioning normally. Therefore, people have been appealed to avoid depositing cylinders out of panic or making repeated bookings. A warning has also been given to take action against those spreading rumours.
The government says that if citizens maintain patience and book cylinders only as per requirement, then the supply of LPG in the country will continue without any hindrance.
Overall, due to increasing tension in West Asia, there has been concern about LPG supply, but the central government has intensified efforts to handle the situation by increasing production. Citizens have also been appealed not to trust rumors and have faith only in official information.
