In such a situation, it becomes necessary to change the address on Aadhaar. You do not need to go out of the house to get it fixed. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows people to update their Aadhaar address completely online through the myAadhaar portal.
What documents will you need
UIDAI accepts or recognizes many types of documents as proof of address. In this, rental agreement, passport, electricity bill, bank statement or passbook and voter ID, all these are valid. Apart from this, other certificates issued by the government are also generally accepted. Keep in mind that the name and complete address of the user should be clearly visible on the documents he is attaching. A blurred scan or a mutilated bill, in which the address has been removed, will cause difficulty in updating the address through Aadhaar online.
Note the steps to update Aadhaar address online
- Go to the official myAadhaar portal of UIDAI.
- Look for ‘Document Update’ option and click on it when you find it.
- Enter your Aadhaar number here and come to your registered mobile number.
- Verify your identity using OTP here.
- Once you’re inside, select ‘Address Update’.
- Also choose your preferred method. This can be done using your own documents or if you have any known family member.
- If the property is worth Rs. 1,000, then proceed through the ‘Head of Family’ (HoF) route.
- Enter new address details.
- Upload a valid proof of address document.
- Submit the request in the next step.
- After submitting, save the acknowledgment receipt.
- It has a 14 digit ‘Update Request Number’ (URN), through which you can track the status of your request online.
How much time does it take?
Once submitted, UIDAI verifies the information and documents provided by the consumer. This process may take up to 30 days from the date of submission. Once approved, the updated Aadhaar card can be downloaded directly from the UIDAI portal. There is no need to go anywhere for this.
No charges will be levied till 14th July
Let us tell you here that the facility to update address online on myAadhaar portal is currently free till July 14, 2026. It is important to note here that if you want to update your name, date of birth, mobile number or biometric information, then you will have to go to the Aadhaar Seva Center yourself to make those changes. Usually its fee ranges between Rs 75 to Rs 125.
