According to media reports, Congress has sent half of its 14 MLAs to a private resort in Bengaluru, so that they remain united. Party sources said that around 9 Congress MLAs reached Bengaluru airport late on Thursday night along with Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das. Congress is trying to ensure that opposition parties are not able to win over its MLAs.

It is being told that eight Congress MLAs and their families have been sent to Wonderla Resort located in Bidadi area of Bengaluru South district, where Congress-ruled Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar is believed to have political clout. According to sources, these MLAs from Odisha are under the supervision of Karnataka Deputy CM of Congress.

A Congress leader said, “The decision to take a group of MLAs to Bengaluru was taken after the state president’s meeting with Congress MLAs and internal discussions held at the top level within the party. Since there is a Congress government in Karnataka, it was decided to send the MLAs to Bengaluru. The remaining MLAs can also be sent to Hyderabad or New Delhi.”

Congress legislature party leader Ramchandra Kadam accused the ruling BJP of ‘horse trading’ (buying of MLAs) ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections. “The MLAs who are in Bhubaneswar will not participate in cross-voting,” Kadam said.
