Updated Suzuki Burgman Street EX Automatic Scooter launched at Rs 1.07 lakh

Suzuki Motorcycle has expanded its premium scooter lineup with the launch of the updated Burgman Street EX. The new maxi-scooter has been introduced at a starting price of Rs 1.07 lakh ex-showroom. This top spec variant sits above the standard versions of the Burgman Street and brings a host of mechanical upgrades, new engine technology, and improved hardware to justify its premium price tag. The scooter is positioned to attract buyers looking for a comfortable, feature rich commuter that offers a substantial road presence.

The Burgman Street EX retains the familiar maxi-scooter styling that has made the model popular, featuring a large front apron, a tall windscreen, and a wide, stepped seat designed for relaxed riding postures. However, the most significant changes are hidden beneath the bodywork. The new EX variant aims to deliver a more refined and fuel-efficient daily riding experience while addressing some of the handling feedback from previous iterations.

Comes with a new engine

Powering the Burgman Street EX is a reliable 124cc, single cylinder, air cooled, fuel injected engine. This motor is fully compliant with the latest emission norms and is compatible with E20 blended petrol. It generates a maximum power output of 8.7 PS at 6,750 rpm and delivers a peak torque of 10 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheel through a smooth continuously variable transmission.

What sets the EX variant apart is the introduction of the Suzuki Eco Performance Alpha technology. This is the first time the manufacturer has utilized this advanced engine tech on a scooter. A major component of this update is the Engine Auto Stop Start system. This idling stop feature automatically shuts down the engine when the scooter comes to a halt at traffic lights to save fuel and reduce tailpipe emissions. The engine then restarts instantly with a subtle twist of the throttle. The scooter also benefits from a new Silent Starter System that ensures a smooth, noise free engine ignition every time.

Ride set-up gets an upgrade too

One of the most requested upgrades from owners of the standard Burgman Street was an improvement to the rear wheel setup. Suzuki has addressed this by equipping the Burgman Street EX with a larger 12-inch rear alloy wheel, replacing the older 10-inch unit. This new wheel is wrapped in a wider 100/80 section tubeless tyre. The larger diameter and wider footprint significantly improve the high-speed stability of the scooter and offer far better grip and comfort over rough, broken roads.

The suspension setup comprises a telescopic fork at the front and a swingarm mounted shock absorber at the rear. The scooter features a long 1,290 mm wheelbase that further aids straight line stability. Braking duties are handled by a 190 mm disc brake at the front and a 130 mm drum brake at the rear, linked by a standard combined braking system to distribute braking force evenly.

Premium connectivity and features

On the features front, the Burgman Street EX is equipped with a fully digital instrument console that supports the Suzuki Ride Connect system. By linking their smartphone via Bluetooth, riders can access turn by turn navigation right on the dashboard. The screen also displays incoming call, SMS, and WhatsApp alerts, alongside phone battery level indicators and speed exceeding warnings.

Practicality remains a strong point for the maxi-scooter. It offers a generous 21.5 litres of underseat storage capacity, which is sufficient for daily groceries or a regular helmet. Additionally, the front apron features closed storage compartments complete with a USB charging port to keep electronic devices powered on the go. At its current price point, the Burgman Street EX goes up directly against other premium 125cc offerings like the Aprilia SR 125 and the TVS Ntorq 125.
