The trade agreement between India and America (India-US Trade Deal) has been postponed for a few months due to the new investigation. The Trump administration has launched a new investigation into excess industrial capacity. Both countries will strengthen economic partnership by continuing dialogue.

India US Trade Deal: Big news has come out regarding the ongoing trade agreement between India and America (India US Trade Deal). According to sources, due to the ongoing war in the Middle East and the Trump administration starting a new investigation on ‘excess industrial capacity’, India may postpone the process of signing the agreement with the US for a few months.

New investigation increased differences

President Donald Trump’s administration has launched a new investigation into ‘excess industrial capacity’ between trading partners, four Indian sources said. Due to this, after the initial consensus reached last month, new differences have now arisen. India was initially hoping that an interim agreement would be reached in March, after which the full agreement (India US Trade Deal) would be implemented in its final form later.

previously agreed upon

In early February, the Trump administration had agreed to reduce stringent US tariffs on Indian imports. In return, India had to fulfill some commitments. These mainly included stopping the import of Russian oil, reducing duties on American products and promising to buy American products worth $500 billion. This initial agreement was considered an important step towards strengthening trade relations between the two countries.

The deadline for agreement may be extended

Sources said that due to new investigation this agreement may now be postponed for a few months. However, US officials say that they are hopeful that India will fulfill its promises. An Indian Trade Ministry spokesperson denied any disruption between the two countries and said that “both sides continue to negotiate a mutually beneficial trade agreement.”

White House stance

A White House official said that America is continuously working with India to finalize this agreement. The official said both countries are committed to strengthening the trade partnership and the dialogue process is ongoing.

This trade agreement between India and America has strategic importance for both the countries. India can better deliver its products to the American market, while America can increase investment and export opportunities in the Indian market. If the agreement is fully implemented, the economic relations between the two countries will get a new strength and mutual benefit in trade will be ensured.
