Didn’t give up on dreams even after losing leg… Monu Chaurasia of Lucknow will now fly for Para cricket in Sri Lanka
Neeraj Mishra Abhishek, Lucknow, Read: 30-year-old Monu Chaurasia, resident of Daliganj of the city, has emerged as an example of struggle and courage. Despite losing his right leg in an accident in childhood, he did not give up and now after being selected in the Para Indian Cricket T-20 team, he is going to represent the country in the Para T-20 competition to be held in Sri Lanka. Monu Chaurasia lost his leg when he was hit by a tractor at the age of seven. After this accident, there was darkness in his life but with the encouragement of his family and the help of Limb Center of KGMU, he got new hope.
After getting the artificial leg, he not only started living a normal life but also made his mark in the sports field. After many years of hard work and struggle, he has been selected in the Para Indian Cricket T-20 team. Now he is ready for a strong performance in the Para T-20 matches to be held in Sri Lanka. Monu was honored by the Uttar Pradesh Sports Department in 2013, while in 2014 he was honored under the state level honor and in the year 2015, the Sports Minister of Bihar also honored his spirit by saluting him.
In this journey of Monu, his father Hariram, mother Geeta Chaurasia, brother Sonu and sisters Radha and Rupa have been continuously encouraging him. Volleyball player Arunima Singh is a source of inspiration for Monu, who despite being disabled herself has performed brilliantly in sports. At present Monu is working in Printer Club of India Company based in Jaipur.
Have to bear the expenses yourself
Monu explains that players often have to bear their own expenses to participate in competitions. He had to spend more than Rs 55 thousand for the competition to be held in Sri Lanka. He believes that a concrete policy should be made to help the economically weaker players and provide them government jobs.
Limb Center gave new hope
Monu told that after losing his leg there was no enthusiasm left in life. With his whole life ahead, his family members saw a ray of hope when he reached the Limb Center of KGMU. After fitting Monu with an artificial limb at a nominal expense, he can now walk like a normal person, not only this, he is now preparing to go to the Olympics.
