T20 World Cup 2026: Not Samson-Bumrah, England’s Will Jacques becomes number-1, two Indian players in Ricky Ponting’s top-5 list

New Delhi. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, Team India created history by winning the title of T20 World Cup 2026. Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah played important roles in India’s victory. In the final, Bumrah received the Player of the Match award, while Samson was given the Player of the Tournament award.

However, when former Australian captain Ricky Ponting rated the top-5 players of the tournament, these two Indian stars did not remain at number-1. England all-rounder Will Jacques topped Ponting’s list. Will Jacques played an important role in taking England to the semi-finals in this tournament and won the Player of the Match award four times.

Ponting gave 9.5-9.5 rating to Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah. Samson scored 321 runs in just five matches, including an unbeaten 97 against West Indies and innings of 89 each in the semi-final and final. Jasprit Bumrah was the joint highest wicket taker in the tournament.

Ponting gave 8.5 rating to Pakistan’s opening batsman Sahibzada Farhan. He scored 383 runs and scored two centuries in the tournament, but his team was eliminated from the Super-8. At the same time, Tim Seifert of New Zealand was given 9 rating.

Ponting’s T20 World Cup 2026 top-5 list was as follows

Will Jacks (England) – 10 rating

Sanju Samson (India) – 9.5 rating

Jasprit Bumrah (India) – 9.5 rating

Tim Seifert (New Zealand) – 9 rating

Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan) – 8.5 rating

  • India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2026 and the brilliant performance of the players brought happiness on the faces of the fans, but Ricky Ponting’s rating made it clear that England’s Will Jacques proved to be the most powerful player in this tournament.
