Name Chandrashekhar ‘Vidur’, not ‘Ravana’… Finance Minister Sitharaman gave advice to Nagina MP in Lok Sabha.

New Delhi. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha on Friday, in a light-hearted manner, advised the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) MP from Nagina constituency of Uttar Pradesh to change his name from Chandrashekhar ‘Ravana’ to Chandrashekhar ‘Vidur’. The Minister said that there is a very respected personality in ‘Mahabharata’, whose name is Vidur and whose scholarship is respected by all.

He said that he recently came to know that Vidur had spent the last part of his life in Bijnor. Sitharaman urged the members that she was saying something light and they should not be misunderstood for this.

He said, “Chandrashekhar ji has added the name ‘Ravana’ to his name… whereas Vidur is considered very scholar and is a great character of Mahabharata. (Hence) add Vidur’s name, why Ravan’s?” After this, he folded his hands and looked at the Nagina MP and addressed him as Chandrashekhar ‘Vidur’, after which members of the ruling party also repeated the word.

After the Finance Minister made this comment in a light-hearted manner, Chandrashekhar sitting on his seat, Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha sitting next to him and other opposition members were also seen laughing. On this comment of Sitharaman, a light-hearted atmosphere was seen in the entire House, when amidst the uproar by the opposition members due to the “LPG crisis”, the Finance Minister was continuously targeting the opposition.

Sitharaman mentioned that Nagina MP Chandrashekhar has said that he is getting step-motherly treatment. Nagina Lok Sabha constituency is located in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. Responding to Chandrashekhar’s allegation of “step-motherly treatment”, Sitharaman informed about the welfare work done in Bijnor district under various schemes of the Centre.

The Finance Minister said, “Under Jal Jeevan Mission, five lakh rural houses in Bijnor district are getting tap water. Toilets have been constructed in three lakh houses under the Swachh Bharat Mission.” Apart from this, he also mentioned the work done in the district under other schemes.

He also referred to a comment by Bharat Adivasi Party MP Rajkumar Roat, saying, “We also listen to smaller party and independent members. In his constituency, so far, 10 times more ‘tap water’ connections have reached people’s homes as compared to 2019.”
