Now the new domestic season is coming and I feel this is the right time to groom a new leader, so I have decided not to continue as the captain.” The date of March 12, 2026 is also written on top of this post, which created a sensation on social media. Many fans felt that even before the start of IPL, there had been a big change in the captaincy of KKR.

However, when this viral post was investigated, the truth turned out to be something else. Ajinkya Rahane has neither posted such a statement on any of his social media accounts nor has any official announcement of change of captaincy been made by KKR.

Actually, this post is completely fake. Actually, Rahane had given a similar statement last year, but it was about leaving the captaincy of the Mumbai domestic team. The same statement was edited and the name of Kolkata Knight Riders was added instead of Mumbai and it was made viral.

Rahane is the captain of KKR

Ajinkya Rahane was given the captaincy of KKR last season. Captain Shreyas Iyer, who won the team title in 2024, had joined Punjab Kings in the mega auction, after which the franchise handed over the command of the team to Rahane. However, under the captaincy of Rahane, KKR could not get the same success in the last season and the team could not even reach the playoffs.
