Big shock before IPL 2026! Ajinkya Rahane’s post about leaving captaincy goes viral on social media
Meanwhile, a big discussion has also started regarding Kolkata Knight Riders. It is being claimed on social media that team captain Ajinkya Rahane has suddenly decided to step down from the captaincy. A viral post has created a stir among the fans and has raised questions about the captaincy of KKR just before IPL 2026.
Rahane’s resignation goes viral
A statement has been posted on the social media platform ‘X’ from an account in the name of veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane. It was claimed that this statement was taken from his Instagram account. The alleged statement read, “It has been an honor to captain Kolkata Knight Riders and win matches. Now the new domestic season is coming and I feel this is the right time to groom a new leader, so I have decided not to continue as the captain.” The date of March 12, 2026 is also written on top of this post, which created a sensation on social media. Many fans felt that even before the start of IPL, there had been a big change in the captaincy of KKR.
IPL 2026: What is the truth of the viral post?
However, when this viral post was investigated, the truth turned out to be something else. Ajinkya Rahane has neither posted such a statement on any of his social media accounts nor has any official announcement of change of captaincy been made by KKR.

Actually, this post is completely fake. Actually, Rahane had given a similar statement last year, but it was about leaving the captaincy of the Mumbai domestic team. The same statement was edited and the name of Kolkata Knight Riders was added instead of Mumbai and it was made viral.
Rahane is the captain of KKR
Ajinkya Rahane was given the captaincy of KKR last season. Captain Shreyas Iyer, who won the team title in 2024, had joined Punjab Kings in the mega auction, after which the franchise handed over the command of the team to Rahane. However, under the captaincy of Rahane, KKR could not get the same success in the last season and the team could not even reach the playoffs. Despite this, the command of the team in IPL 2026 is once again going to be in the hands of Rahane.
KKR’s first match will be held on March 29.
Kolkata Knight Riders will start their campaign in IPL 2026 from March 29. The team’s first match will be played against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In such a situation, the viral post about him leaving the captaincy has proved to be a complete rumor and it has become clear that in this season too, the command of KKR is going to be in the hands of Ajinkya Rahane.
