Kathmandu. Late Friday night, there was an air attack on the battalion headquarters of Nepalese soldiers deployed under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the West Asian country Lebanon. According to preliminary information, there has been no human loss in this attack.
According to Nepal’s Defense Ministry, the attack took place late Friday night in Al-Jabel area of south-eastern Lebanon. According to military spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet, the drone attack was carried out on the battalion headquarters of the Nepalese peacekeeping force deployed under the United Nations Mission near the Blue Line.
Nepal’s army has long been deployed in various conflict-torn areas under the United Nations peacekeeping missions. Even in Lebanon, Nepalese soldiers are working under the United Nations Interim Force to maintain peace and security in the border area, monitor and assist local civilians.
The area where the attack took place is counted among the sensitive areas located near the border of Lebanon and Israel. The attack came amid rising military tensions around the Blue Line. The Blue Line is the international boundary line marked by the United Nations to demarcate the border between Lebanon and Israel.
The region often sees military activities and tensions, so UN peacekeepers work there to monitor and maintain stability. There have been no casualties in this attack on the battalion headquarters of Nepalese peacekeepers, yet the incident is being considered serious.
On behalf of the Nepali Army, it has been said that Nepal’s Foreign Ministry, Defense Ministry and the United Nations Mission are investigating the nature of this attack and the reasons behind it. Along with keeping an eye on this incident, it has been said to maintain coordination with the United Nations to ensure the safety of Nepali soldiers deployed in Lebanon.
