According to reports, Meta wants to recoup the expensive investment made on Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure. It is preparing itself for greater efficiency from employees working with the help of AI. However, no date has been set yet for these cuts, nor has their extent been finalised.
In response to questions about the scheme, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said, “This is merely speculative reporting based on speculative methods.”
According to the company’s latest filing, Meta had about 79,000 employees as of December 31, 2025. Based on this figure, retrenchment of 20% of the employees means loss of jobs of 16000 employees. If Meta lays off 20% of its employees, it would be the company’s biggest layoff since the restructuring that took place in late 2022 and early 2023.
