NCERT made new changes in English textbooks, now students will be taught Indian Knowledge System
New Delhi, March 14. The text books of Indian school students are being developed based on indigenous and Indian knowledge systems and this year itself students will get to study this indigenous curriculum. In this sequence, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has implemented new changes in English textbooks. Under this, preference has now been given to Indian academics and not to foreign writers for preparing English language textbooks.

NCERT has made sweeping changes in the Class 9 English textbook. Academics say that due to the new changes, the syllabus has become precise and less. This Class 9 English textbook focuses heavily on Indian literature. This textbook has a chapter on Rajya Sabha nominated MP Sudha Murthy. The works of famous and great Indian writers like Rabindranath Tagore have also been included in the textbook.

An NCERT official said that earlier the book had a total of 29 chapters. Now their number has been reduced to 16. The special thing is that out of these 29 chapters, 15 chapters were written by foreign or international authors. This trend continued from the year 2006-07 to the academic year 2025-26, but now it has been changed.
Officials say the number of English textbooks has also been reduced from two to one. There will now be some 16 chapters in this book. The name of this new English textbook of class 9 is Kaveri. The first chapter in the textbook has been taken from the book ‘How I Taught My Grandmother to Read and Other Stories’ by Rajya Sabha MP and author Sudha Murthy.
Apart from Sudha Murthy, works of many other Indian writers are also included.
This book by Sudha Murthy was published in the year 2004. All the books have been prepared as per the National School Education Curriculum Framework 2023 under the prescribed rules. Apart from Sudha Murthy, the works of many other Indian writers have also been included in this English textbook. The authors whose works have been included include the great Tamil poet Subramaniam Bharati, Naga writer Temasula Aao, renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore and Assamese novelist Mitra Phukan.
Indian knowledge systems have been given importance in the new books
NCERT officials say that Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) have been given importance in the new books. At the same time, out of 16 chapters of the English textbook, eight chapters are written by Indian authors and six international authors are also part of this book.
