The air pressure and temperature in the cargo hold of the aircraft (where the bags are kept) are constantly changing. According to science, dried coconut has the tendency of spontaneous combustion. This means that it can ignite spontaneously without any external spark just by coming in contact with heat and oxygen.

The biggest threat to security

According to aviation experts, if a large quantity of dry coconut is kept together, it can catch fire through self-heating. It is almost impossible to extinguish such a fire in the cargo area of ​​the aircraft which can prove fatal for the aircraft flying in the air. That is why it is strictly prohibited to carry it not only in cabin baggage but also in check-in baggage.

There is also a ban on water coconuts

Not only dry but also raw or watery coconut is prohibited in flight. There are two main reasons for this. First, there is a certain limit on the amount of liquids an aircraft can carry. Secondly, X-ray scanners cannot detect the liquid present inside the thick layer of coconut. From security point of view, there is suspicion of explosive liquid inside it, hence security agencies do not allow it to board.
