Silchar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the central government is working to reduce the impact of global conflicts on people. He also alleged that the opposition party Congress was behaving “irresponsibly” by trying to create panic in the country.

Addressing a public meeting in Assam’s Silchar, Modi alleged that the Congress ignored the Northeast and allowed the border line to be drawn during independence which cut off the Barak Valley from the sea route. He said, “In view of the ongoing wars in the world, our effort is to minimize their impact on the people of the country. Congress should have played the role of a responsible political party but it failed to do so. She is trying to spread panic among the public.

“It (Congress) neither has any vision for Assam nor for the nation, they (Congress leaders) only know how to abuse Modi, spread rumors and tell lies to mislead people,” he said. Modi said the Barak Valley was once a major center of trade and commerce. He said, “Just as Congress left the North-East to its fate, it also played an important role in weakening the Barak Valley.”

“Barak Valley, once known as an industrial hub, has lost its original strength,” he said. After independence, Congress governments remained in power for decades, yet there was little to no development in this area. Today the BJP government is working to change this.

The Prime Minister also alleged that the Congress pushed the youth of the state onto the path of violence and extremism, while the BJP has ensured that the state becomes an ocean of opportunities for them. He said, “Where Congress stops thinking, we start working.” He said that the basic mantra of BJP is to give priority to the backward people in development.
