Mayawati got angry on the demand of giving Bharat Ratna to Kanshi Ram, called Congress an anti-Dalit party

Lucknow, 14 March. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday questioned Congress’s proposal that BSP founder Kanshi Ram be honored with Bharat Ratna if it comes to power at the Centre. Mayawati urged party workers across the country to remain vigilant against attempts by other political parties, especially the Congress, to weaken the BSP.

He said that despite being in power at the Center for many years, Congress never gave due respect to BR Ambedkar, so how can the party now propose to honor Kanshi Ram. Kanshi Ram’s birth anniversary will be celebrated on Sunday. He wrote on the social media platform

His comments came a day after a resolution was passed at the ‘Constitution Conference’ organized by the Congress in Lucknow, which said that the party will honor Kanshi Ram with Bharat Ratna if voted to power. He said, “While in power at the Centre, the Congress Party did not declare even a day of national mourning on the death of Kanshi Ram. Similarly, the then Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh also did not declare state mourning.”

He said that many organizations and political parties claiming to represent the Dalit community, who often act as puppets in the hands of big political parties, are continuously using Kanshi Ram’s name for political gains while trying to weaken the BSP.

Mayawati said, “Now all these parties are trying to weaken BSP, the party formed by Kanshi Ram, by using different tactics every day, therefore his (Kanshi Ram) followers and supporters should remain alert, especially against Congress, whose anti-Dalit ideology and mentality made the formation of BSP necessary.” The BSP chief appealed to the party workers to ensure the success of the programs organized across the country, especially in Uttar Pradesh, on March 15 to commemorate Kanshi Ram’s birth anniversary.
