Indian women’s hockey team captain Salima Tete completes 150 international matches

Hyderabad. Hockey India has congratulated Indian women’s hockey team captain Salima Tete on completing 150 matches in her international career. Salima achieved this feat while playing against the England women’s hockey team in the final match of the Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026. This match will be played at GMC, Hyderabad. Jharkhand-born 25-year-old midfielder Salima Tete is known for her fast pace and tireless hard work on the field. He made his debut for the Indian team during the Test series against Australia in Melbourne in November 2016. Since then, she has become one of the most influential players for the national team and has scored 16 international goals so far.

Salima achieved Olympian status at the age of just 19, when she was part of the Indian team that finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. After this, there was continuous progress in his career. She received the ‘Rising Player of the Tournament’ award at the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup held in Muscat, where India finished third.

She also captained the Indian team at the 2021 Women’s Junior World Cup held in Potchefstroom, South Africa, where the team finished fourth. Apart from this, his important goal in the bronze medal match against New Zealand in the 2022 Commonwealth Games proved to be decisive in India’s victory.

Salima was part of the Indian team that won the FIH Women’s Nations Cup held in Spain in 2022 and won the bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games. In the same year, in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy held in Ranchi, she scored five goals in seven matches and was named ‘Player of the Tournament’.

In the year 2024, she was made the captain of the Indian women’s hockey team. Under her leadership, India won the gold medal at the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 held in Bihar and won the silver medal at the 2025 Women’s Asia Cup.

His brilliant performance has also been honored with many awards. In 2021, he was awarded the ‘Hockey India Asunta Lakra Award’, while in 2023 he received the ‘Hockey India Balbir Singh Senior Player of the Year’ award. In 2024, he was awarded the Arjuna Award for his outstanding contribution in the field of sports.

Congratulating on this achievement, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said that playing 150 international matches at such a young age shows Salima’s talent, consistency and dedication. Meanwhile, General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh said that Salima has been one of the most influential players of Indian women’s hockey in recent years and many more big achievements are expected from her in the future.
