There is no ice and fire, fire is fire… Why did Sanju Samson say that in an interview! Video viral on social media
After the 2024 T20 World Cup, both the opening slots for Team India were vacant. Both these seats were filled by Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. However, the pair broke up in 2025, but they got a chance to open the innings again. However, the pair broke up once again in the 2026 T20 World Cup, but later formed a pair and were instrumental in helping Team India win the T20 World Cup. The pair consists of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, who are called the fiery couple. Sanju Samson himself has admitted this.
Sharing the stage with Abhishek Sharma at an India Today event, Sanju Samson said, “We are not ice and fire, we are fire and fire – sometimes he lights the fire, sometimes I. We have such a combination. We have been doing this since 2024, our Kerala-Punjabi friendship.” Abhishek Sharma added, “Sanju bhai is a very humble person, he is very loving, very caring. When you have a player like him in your team, you feel like you have someone behind you. He is always there to support you on and off the field.”

It should be noted that Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma have been opening the innings for the Indian team in most of the matches since the 2024 T20 World Cup. Earlier, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were opening the innings. Both retired after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. After that Abhishek and Sanju duo succeeded as openers. However, the pair broke up in the 2025 Asia Cup and Abhishek and Shubman Gill were made the openers. After Gill failed to perform, the team management returned to Samson. However, after Samson’s poor series in New Zealand, he was dropped from the T20 World Cup playing eleven.
In the 2026 T20 World Cup, the first match saw the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. In the second match, Samson and Ishan opened as Abhishek was not fit. Abhishek returned and Sanju was dropped, but then the management had to revert to Samson when left-handed batsmen disrupted the team composition. However, the duo of Abhishek and Samson didn’t look that strong before the final match, as Abhishek in one match, Sanju in two matches and both of them in the final match were brilliant and led Team India to victory.
