‘I have started thinking…’ Troubled by injury, England’s World Cup champion fast bowler hints at retirement
Mark Wood: In the history of cricket, we have seen many such fast bowlers who made a splash in the beginning of their career but could not play for a long time due to frequent injuries. Now the name of England fast bowler Mark Wood can also be added to this. Wood has been suffering from a knee injury for a long time and is out of the team. At the same time, due to very slow recovery from knee injury, Wood has now started thinking about retirement. He indicated in his recent statement that apart from cricket, he is now also thinking about other options in life.
Mark Wood hints at retirement
Mark Wood has not played any cricket since the first Ashes Test last year and despite several months having passed, he has not fully recovered from the knee injury. At the age of 36, he knows very well that his career is probably at its last juncture, but despite this he is determined to give it another chance. Speaking to the BBC, Wood said, “I am slowly progressing from the stage I am in in my career. If I push too hard, I will end up here. Every six weeks I have to go to a specialist. My condition has improved a lot from what I was told in Australia. Now I have started running.”
He further said, “I have also started thinking about other things like doing a podcast, getting my coaching badges. For the first time now, I am thinking about what I will do next if things don’t go well.”
