Lucknow, 15 March. Leaders of various parties, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav, on Sunday paid tribute to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram, one of the prominent leaders who awakened political consciousness in the Bahujan Samaj, on his birth anniversary. Paying tribute to Kanshi Ram in a message on ‘X’, the Chief Minister said, “My humble tribute on the birth anniversary of Honorable Kanshi Ram, the founder of Bahujan Samaj Party, the pioneer of social justice who dedicated his entire life for the upliftment of the Dalits, the exploited and the deprived.”
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya too said in a post on He said that his life of struggle for equality, self-respect and social consciousness still inspires the society to be conscious of justice and rights. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also paid tribute to Kanshi Ram.
Paying tribute to her party’s founder Kanshi Ram, Mayawati said in a post on ‘ He dedicated his entire life to the mission of reaching the destination and fought hard continuously.” He reiterated his resolve to strengthen BSP’s ‘Social Transformation and Economic Liberation’ movement with full commitment and achieve electoral success with unwavering determination.
The Uttar Pradesh unit of Congress also paid tribute to Kanshi Ram on his birth anniversary. “The bigger the number, the bigger the share,” the party said in a post on ‘X’. Hundreds of salutes to Bahujan hero, ‘Saheb’ Kanshi Ram on his birth anniversary. Our true tribute would be to fulfill the dream that you showed to the oppressed society of becoming a ‘ruler’. Jai Bheem! Victory to India!”
Akhilesh Yadav shared a picture of Kanshi Ram in a post from his ‘X’ handle and described him as a megastar of social change. Chandrashekhar Azad, national president of Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and Lok Sabha member from Nagina, praised Kanshi Ram and said that he woke up a sleeping community. He said in a post on ‘X’, “Kanshi Ram Saheb, your noble deeds have awakened the sleeping community. Hundreds of salutes and humble respect to Bahujan hero Honorable Saheb Kanshi Ram on his birth anniversary and hearty congratulations and best wishes to all of you on the sixth foundation day of Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram).”
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi had recently said that if Jawaharlal Nehru had been alive, Kanshi Ram would have been made the Chief Minister from the Congress side. In the ‘Constitution Conference’ in Lucknow on Tuesday, Gandhi had said that Mahatma Gandhi, Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram never compromised on their principles. Kanshi Ram, who was among the leading leaders who created political consciousness in the Bahujan community, was born on 15 March 1934 in Rupnagar, Punjab.
He formed ‘All India Backwards and Minorities Communities Employees Federation’ (BAMCEF) in 1971 and BSP in 1984. Kanshi Ram was elected to the Lok Sabha from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh in 1991 and from Hoshiarpur in Punjab in 1996. He also served as a Rajya Sabha member from 1998 to 2004. He died on 9 October 2006 in Delhi at the age of 71.
