Assembly Elections 2026 Date: The Election Commission held a press conference on March 15 and announced the election dates in 4 states and 1 union territory. These states include Assam, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. According to the Commission, voting in Assam will take place on April 9 and counting of votes will take place on May 4.

In Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar gave information about the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. He said that the objective of the Commission is to conduct fair, peaceful and transparent elections in all the states.

Big things from the Election Commission’s press conference

  • The Election Commission has reviewed the work of officials and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) associated with the electoral process and voter awareness programs are also being strengthened.
  • The Commission also interacted with the youth who voted for the first time and the icons associated with the SWEEP campaign, who are working to make people aware about voting.
  • The states and union territories where elections are going to be held – Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, represent the different geographical and cultural identities of India.
  • These elections are not only a democratic process, but also reflect the cultural diversity and unity of the country.
  • In the last few days, the Election Commission team visited all the election states and reviewed the preparations. During this, the Commission also met recognized political parties and took their suggestions.
  • The Commission also held meetings with District Election Officers, Superintendents of Police, IGs, DIGs and nodal officers of various enforcement agencies. Along with this, the election preparations were also reviewed by discussing with the Chief Electoral Officers, Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police of the respective states.
  • Approximately 17.4 crore voters, equal to the combined population of continents like Australia, France, South Africa, Germany and Canada. We will also see our guests from election commissions of more than 20 countries who have come to India to witness the festive atmosphere of elections and the transparent and efficient conduct of elections.
  • The Commission, together with millions of election officials and security personnel, is committed to ensuring free, fair, transparent, accessible and peaceful elections.
  • The Election Commission of India is also ready to welcome every voter to their polling stations and provide them a pleasant and comfortable voting experience.

  • The festival of elections, which is our pride, is going to be held in the states of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Total voters are 17.4 crore and assembly constituencies are 824. The number of polling stations is around 2.19 lakh, and around 25 lakh employees will be involved in the electoral machinery.
  • The tenure of Assam Assembly is ending on 20th May, that of Kerala on 23rd May, that of Puducherry on 15th June, that of Tamil Nadu on 10th May and that of West Bengal on 7th May.
  • According to the final voter list, the number of voters in Assam is around 2.25 crore, 2.7 crore in Kerala, 9.44 lakh in Puducherry, 5.67 crore in Tamil Nadu and 6.44 crore in West Bengal.
