Assembly Election: Election Commission announced assembly elections of 5 states including Bengal, know when and where voting will be held

New Delhi. The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates of assembly elections in West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Counting of votes in all states will take place on May 4. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that voting for the West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29. He told in the press conference that voting for the 234-member assembly of Tamil Nadu will be held on April 23.
Kumar said that voting for Kerala, Assam and Puducherry will be held in a single phase on April 9. He said that the counting of votes for the assembly elections of the four states and the Union Territory will take place on May 4. The Chief Election Commissioner said, “Clean electoral rolls are the cornerstone of our democracy; No eligible voter should be removed and no ineligible voter should be included.
He said that a total of 17.4 crore voters are eligible to vote in the elections in 824 constituencies of five state assemblies. He said that voting will be held at 2.19 lakh polling stations in four states and one union territory, where 25 lakh election officers will be deployed on duty. Kumar said that the average number of voters per polling station in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal is 750-900.

Kumar also congratulated the BLOs for doing good work during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. He said that the presiding officers deployed at all the polling stations will upload the voting percentage every two hours and the voting data will be uploaded immediately after the election is over.

Main election dates:
  • Kerala, Assam and Puducherry: in one step 9 April 2026 Voting on.
  • Tamil Nadu: in one step 23 April 2026 Voting on.
  • west bengal: Voting in two phases – 23 April 2026 And 29 April 2026
  • result declaration: all places 4 May 2026 Vote counting and results.

With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect immediately in all these states and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

State wise seats and importance:
  • west bengal: 294 seats – Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is in power, BJP is the main opposition. TMC had won a big victory in 2021.
  • Assam: 126 seats – BJP’s government, absolute majority for the first time in 2021.
  • Kerala: 140 seats – LDF (CPI(M) led) government, Pinarayi Vijayan as Chief Minister.
  • Tamil Nadu: 234 seats – DMK government, M.K. Stalin Chief Minister.
  • Puducherry: 30 seats – AINRC-BJP coalition government.

The Election Commission said that this program has been decided keeping in mind the security, preparations and voter list. The focus is on stopping violence by reducing the phase in West Bengal.These elections are important for 2026, as these states influence national politics. All the parties have now started preparations in full swing.
