Whose government will be formed in West Bengal assembly elections? Opinion poll surprised everyone
New Delhi: The dates for assembly elections in West Bengal have been announced. The Election Commission has decided to conduct voting in two phases in the state and the results will be declared on May 4. There is a tough fight here between Trinamool Congress (TMC), BJP and Congress. BJP is making efforts to defeat Mamata Banerjee, while Mamata is expressing confidence of winning for the fourth time.
With the announcement of elections, the first big opinion poll has come out, which shows the comeback of TMC, but Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM has surprised everyone.
Election dates and atmosphere
There are a total of 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly. Elections will be held in two phases. After voting the results will be declared on 4th May. Political heat has increased in the state. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is in a strong position since the last elections, but BJP is continuously strengthening the organization. Congress is also in the fray, but its position looks weak.
What does the first opinion poll say?
According to the joint opinion poll of India TV and Materialize-IANS, public trust in Mamata Banerjee’s TMC remains intact. In the survey, TMC is expected to get 155 to 170 seats. The seats may be slightly less than last time, but majority will remain with TMC. BJP is expected to get 100 to 115 seats. This is being considered as a setback for BJP, because it was hoping for a change of power.
Owaisi’s party created a surprise
The biggest shocking result in this poll is that of AIMIM alliance. Asaduddin Owaisi’s party is expected to get 5 to 6 seats. It is showing better performance than Congress. Congress’s account may not be opened.
Other parties may get 0 to 1 seat. AIMIM has recently emphasized on Muslim vote bank in Bengal and has talked about contesting on all seats. This can become a challenge for TMC, because Muslim votes can get divided.
