Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying, hope you are well. Today we are celebrating the birth anniversary of Kanshi Ram ji and reflecting on his legacy and contribution. On this occasion, I request you to honor him with Bharat Ratna posthumously.
He further wrote, Kanshi Ram ji changed the nature of Indian politics. Through his movements he increased political awareness among the Bahujans and the poor. He reminded them that their vote, their voice and their representation are important, and this country belongs to everyone equally. Due to his efforts, many people who had never even thought of entering public life started looking at politics as a means to achieve justice and equality.
I demand the Government of India to honor the great warrior of social justice and guide of Bahujan consciousness, Honorable Kanshi Ram ji, with Bharat Ratna.

Our Constitution promises equality, dignity and participation to every Indian. Kanshiram ji dedicated his life to making these promises meaningful to the people of the lowest section of the society. In doing so he strengthened the foundation of Indian democracy and made our political system more representative and fair. For many years, Dalit intellectuals, leaders and activists have been demanding to honor Kanshi Ram ji with Bharat Ratna. His demand has been continuous and full of deep emotion. Recently, I attended an event in Lucknow where the leaders and participants present strongly reiterated this demand, reflecting a widespread sentiment.
Rahul Gandhi further wrote, awarding him Bharat Ratna posthumously will recognize his immense contribution towards the nation. It will honor the aspirations of millions of people who look to him as a symbol of empowerment and hope. I hope that the government will seriously consider this request.
