Election Commission Action On West Bengal: Big action by Election Commission in West Bengal, Chief Secretary and Home Secretary were removed and these officers were appointed

New Delhi. After announcing the dates of assembly elections of four states and one union territory, the Election Commission has taken a big step by removing two senior officers in West Bengal and making new appointments. The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates of assembly elections in four states and union territories. After which, late in the night, West Bengal Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and Home Secretary Jagdish Prasad Meena were removed from their posts. The Election Commission has appointed Dushyant Nariyala as the Chief Secretary of West Bengal. At the same time, Sanghamitra Ghosh will now look after the work of Home Secretary of West Bengal.

According to media reports, the Election Commission may in the coming days remove the DGP of West Bengal and the Police Commissioner of Kolkata and many other officers and make new appointments. In any state or at the time of Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission gets the right to appoint and remove officers. Dushyant Nariyala, who was made the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, is a 1993 batch IAS. Till now he was holding the post of Additional Chief Secretary in North Bengal Development Department. Nariyala has also previously worked in the Disaster Management and Civil Defense Department. He will take over as Chief Secretary this afternoon.

The Election Commission has decided to conduct West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 in two phases. In the first phase, elections will also be held in most of the districts bordering Bangladesh on 23 April 2026. After this, the Election Commission has announced to hold voting in the remaining districts on 29th April. Along with Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Union Territory Puducherry, the results of West Bengal assembly elections will also come on 4 May 2026. The Election Commission has already decided that from now on postal ballots will be counted first in the counting. After the counting of postal ballots is over, the number of votes cast in EVMs will come. The Election Commission has also appointed a large number of central forces in West Bengal. So that incidents of violence can be stopped here.
