Som Pradosh Vrat 2026: Worship like this on Som Pradosh Vrat, know easy ways to please Lord Shiva

In Sanatan Dharma, many fasts and festivals have been prescribed for the worship of Lord Shiva, in which Pradosh Vrat is considered to have special significance. It is believed that worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati with a true heart on this day removes life’s problems and brings happiness and peace in the home. When this fast falls on Monday, it is called Som Pradosh Vrat, the importance of which increases even more. Monday itself is considered a day dedicated to Lord Shiva, hence the fasting and worship done on this day is considered especially fruitful.

Pradosh fast comes twice every month

Pradosh Vrat is observed twice every month. According to the Hindu calendar, this fast is observed on the Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. On this day, worshiping Lord Shiva in the evening is considered most auspicious. By observing this fast, devotees pray to Lord Shiva for happiness, prosperity and well-being of the family.

Many auspicious yogas are being formed today

This time Som Pradosh fast has come with many auspicious yogas, due to which its importance has increased further. According to the Panchang, Shiva Yoga, Siddha Yoga and Shukraditya Yoga are being formed today. There is a religious belief that the worship and meditation done in these auspicious yogas gives special benefits. Due to these yogas, it is believed that there is a possibility of getting the blessings of Lord Shiva soon.

During Pradosh Vrat, evening time is considered most important for worship. Worshiping Lord Shiva on this day during Pradosh period gives more results. Today the auspicious time of puja is said to be from 6:48 pm to 9:12 pm. It is considered best to worship Shiva during this period.

This time there is a special coincidence of Dwadashi and Trayodashi tithi on Som Pradosh fast. According to the Panchang, Trayodashi Tithi has started from 9.40 am today and this Tithi will continue till 9.23 am the next day i.e. 17th March. Pradosh fast can be observed during this period.

Easy worship method for Pradosh Vrat

Pradosh Vrat puja can also be done in a simple way. Devotees observe fast throughout the day and worship Lord Shiva in the evening.

  1. Wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this take a pledge to keep the fast.
  2. In the auspicious time of the evening, clean the place of worship and spread a red cloth on the post and install the idol or picture of Lord Shiva.
  3. Start the puja by lighting the lamp and incense.
  4. Perform Jalabhishek of Shivling and anoint it with Ganga water, milk, curd, ghee and honey. Also offer Belpatra and Dhatura.
  5. After offering food to Lord Shiva, recite Shiva Chalisa and listen or read the story of Pradosh Vrat.
  6. Finally, chant the mantra “Om Namah Shivay” at least 108 times. Recollection of 108 names of Lord Shiva is also considered auspicious.
