The pain of losing father to cancer is still fresh, Akshay Kumar said – Every third man is at risk, do not be careless in getting tested.
Akshay Kumar expressed his deep sorrow that when his father was aged 50-55, he and his family were not aware of the importance of ‘PSA’ i.e. Prostate-Specific Antigen test. He told that his father meant the whole world to him, but he left this world at the age of just 67. According to Akshay, if he had known about this test in advance, perhaps the disease would have been detected in the early stages and his father’s life could have been saved. Sharing this personal loss, he made a special request to all the men and their families from the stage.
Citing statistics, the actor said that prostate cancer has become very common today and every third man is at risk of it. Akshay stressed that every man after crossing the age of 50 should get a PSA test done regularly at least once a year. He said that this test can not only save your life but can also save your entire family from a big crisis. Akshay believes that timely detection of the disease is the best cure and awareness is the only effective way to fight this deadly disease.
According to experts, PSA test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen in the blood. Although high PSA levels do not always indicate cancer—it can also be a sign of prostate infection or an enlarged prostate—checking it can help detect the risk early. Akshay Kumar, who lost his father in the year 2000, still feels that pain and that is why he is now carrying forward this mission towards health. His message is being appreciated a lot on social media and it is being considered an important health awareness step.
