Chinese actress Zhang Jingyi sparks buzz with ‘trash bag’ on red carpet
Chinese actress Zhang Jingyi drew attention online after appearing on the Beijing International Film Festival red carpet carrying a simple yellow plastic bag instead of the usual designer clutch or evening purse.

Some fans speculated that the bag resembled Balenciaga’s Trash Bag Large Pouch, a handbag made to look like a garbage bag, The Telegraph India reported.
The Balenciaga item was released as part of the brand’s Winter 2022 360° collection and carries a price tag of US$1,800.
But the speculation later turned out to be wrong. The bag Zhang, 26, carried was just an ordinary plastic bag, used as a reference to her role in the film The One. In the movie, a yellow plastic bag is used as a communication symbol between her character and her hearing-impaired parents.

The unusual accessory quickly sparked jokes, memes and ridicule online, with many users poking fun at how such an everyday item ended up on a glamorous red carpet.
“Zhang Jingyi flexing a $1,790 Balenciaga bag… Meanwhile, the world: That’s our grocery bag,” a social media user wrote on X.
