Salman Khan’s ‘Battle Of Galwan’ Retitled ‘Maatrubhumi’ Amid Fact-Distortion Row

Mumbai: Just weeks before its scheduled release, Salman Khan’s war drama ‘Battle of Galwan’ has been retitled ‘Maatrubhoomi’ after controversy erupted over Chinese claims that the film ‘distorts facts.’

On Monday, Salman shared the new poster of the film and announced the new title on social media.

“May War Rest In Peace,” read the caption of the post, and was followed by hashtag #Maatrubhumi.

Salman also tagged director Apoorva Lakhia, lead actress Chitrangda Singh and his own production house.

Reacting to the new title, a fan wrote, “Is this a name change for a movie?”

Another wondered, “Movie renamed to Maatrubhumi? Or what?”

The film, based on the Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops in 2020, sparked controversy earlier this month when Chinese media, particularly the Global Times, alleged that it distorts facts and fuels anti-China sentiment.

Produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films, ‘Maatrubhoomi’ makers say the film presents a powerful story of courage, sacrifice and resilience, while also highlighting the emotional strength of love and family amid the intensity of conflict.
