“India should be designated a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) because it engages in and tolerates systematic, persistent and gross violations of religious freedom, as defined by the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA),” the US Commission on International Religious Freedom said in its reports. The commission recommended the Trump administration “press India to allow US government agencies, such as USCIRF and the US State Department, to assess religious freedom conditions within the country.”
The commission further recommended: “Imposing targeted sanctions on individuals and organizations responsible for and tolerating serious violations of religious freedom, such as India’s Research and Analysis Wing and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), by freezing the assets of those individuals or organizations and/or barring their entry into the United States; limiting future US security assistance and bilateral trade policies with India; and stop arms sales to India by invoking Section 6 of the Arms Export Control Act because of continued intimidation and harassment against American citizens and religious minorities there.”

This recommendation was made to the Donald Trump administration by the USCIRF, an official US government body.
