Indian Navy Quietly Launches Operation Sankalp To Evacuate LPG Tankers From The Strait Of Hormuz

Amidst the war in the Gulf region, the Indian Navy has silently demonstrated its strategic strength. Under Operation Sankalp, the Indian Navy has deployed its warships to ensure the security of Indian ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In recent times, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed due to the war situation, due to which there is a possibility of impact on the global energy supply. In this sensitive situation, at least three warships of the Indian Navy have been deployed in the Gulf of Oman, which are working to bring Indian commercial ships to safety.

The impact of this deployment is also now clearly visible. LPG tankers coming to India after a gap of almost two weeks have managed to cross the strait safely. ‘Shivalik’ tanker recently reached Mundra Port in Gujarat in the early hours. Along with this, ‘Nanda Devi’ tanker was also a part of this mission. Both ships were loaded with a total of about 92,700 metric tonnes of LPG.

These tankers were escorted by an Indian Navy warship, fully deployed with active air defense systems, to move them out of the high-risk area. This entire action was carried out in a very calm manner, but its impact is considered to be very important strategically.

This step was not taken suddenly, but is part of the broader strategy of ‘Operation Sankalp’ launched in 2019. The objective of this mission is to ensure the security of Indian ships operating in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Gulf of Aden, especially when geopolitical tensions are at their peak in the region.

On the other hand, Donald Trump has appealed to China, Japan, South Korea and European countries to join the US-led alliance to ensure the security of sea routes. India, on the other hand, has chosen to act independently while sticking to its policy of ‘strategic autonomy’. India has not only deployed its naval resources but has also maintained diplomatic dialogue with Tehran.

However, the situation still remains sensitive. Currently, 22 Indian flagged ships are operating in the Persian Gulf, carrying more than 600 Indian sailors. Apart from this, many foreign ships carrying goods for India are also stranded in this area.

In this context, this silent but effective action of the Indian Navy is not only playing an important role in securing the country’s energy supply, but is also strengthening India’s independent and balanced strategy on the global stage.
