Vrindavan: Terror of ‘spectacle stealing’ monkeys before the President’s visit, administration adopted a unique method

Mathura: The mischief of monkeys is not a new thing in Vrindavan of Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, but this time the matter has become very special. The proposed visit of the country’s President Draupadi Murmu has increased the concern of the administration. These monkeys, which were a problem for the common people, have now become a headache for the security agencies too. Especially the activities of ‘Chashma Chor’ monkeys have made the situation challenging.

Monkeys active in the temples and markets of Vrindavan have a special habit, which becomes a problem for the devotees coming here. These monkeys suddenly pounce and snatch people’s glasses. After this, they do not return it immediately, but demand food and drinks in return. Especially, people are able to get their glasses back only by giving packets like Frooti. This unique method has become common here and many people remain troubled by it.

Concern increased before the President’s visit

President Draupadi Murmu is going to visit Vrindavan on a three-day visit from March 19. During this time she will visit many important places, including Oriya Baba Ashram and Charitable Hospital run by Ramakrishna Mission. Apart from this, Parikrama of Govardhan is also proposed on 21st March. In such a situation, the administration wants that no uncomfortable situation should arise during the tour.

Attempt to drive away with cutouts of baboons

Earlier, trained langurs were used to keep monkeys away, but now it is not possible to do so due to rules related to wildlife conservation. This time the administration has adopted a different approach. To scare the monkeys, cutouts resembling langurs are being installed. It is believed that monkeys are afraid of langurs, so this method can prove effective.

Team deployed, many measures adopted

A team of about 30 members of the Forest Department has been deployed to control the situation. These employees will keep constant vigil in sensitive areas. They will also have equipment like slingshot, sticks and laser lights, so that the monkeys can be driven away.

Apart from this, where the number of monkeys is high, additional staff is also being deployed so that any problem can be resolved immediately. The administration hopes that with all these measures, order will be maintained during the President’s visit and the devotees will not face any problem.

Administration ready amidst challenge

The problem of monkeys in Vrindavan has been going on for years, but this time this matter is in discussion at the national level. The administration is making full preparations so that everything can happen smoothly during the visit of the country’s first citizen. Now it remains to be seen how effective these new measures prove to be on the ‘glasses thief’ monkeys.
