Big boost to traffic improvement in Delhi, ₹3,000 crore budget approved for Barapula Phase-3 and MB Road Project
New Delhi. Delhi Government has taken a big decision to reduce traffic jams in the capital and make movement easier. Funds for two important projects were approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The major project among these is Barapullah Elevated Road (Phase-3) from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar Phase-1.) Is constructed. For this, the government has approved the revised project cost of ₹1635.03 crore. After the completion of this project, the traffic pressure between East Delhi and south-eastern parts is expected to reduce and the travel of the people is expected to become easier. The expansion of Barapula corridor will provide relief from the problem of traffic jam especially during peak hours.
The government had already sanctioned ₹1635.03 crore for Barapula Elevated Road (Phase-3) from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar Phase-1. Along with this, the elevated corridor and underpass project on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road (MB Road) has also got the green signal. The estimated cost of this second project has been kept at ₹1471.14 crore and it will be constructed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). After the completion of this project, it is expected to provide relief from heavy traffic jam on MB Road. This route connects major areas of South Delhi, where a large number of vehicles pass daily.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the completion of these projects will provide relief to lakhs of people and the city’s traffic system will become more modern and convenient. Barapula Elevated Road (Phase-3), approved by the government, is an extension of the existing Barapula Corridor, which will be built from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar Phase-1. After the completion of this project, signal-free connectivity will be available from Mayur Vihar in East Delhi to AIIMS in South Delhi.
The benefits of this project will not be limited to Delhi only, but people of Noida and Ghaziabad will also get the benefit of better connectivity. Along with this, the traffic jam around Sarai Kale Khan, Ring Road, DND and NH-24 is also expected to reduce. The government has targeted to complete this ambitious project by June 30, 2026. This entire scheme, together with the elevated corridor and underpass to be built on MB Road, can bring a big change in the traffic system of Delhi.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the unnecessary delays in these projects during the previous government have been taken seriously. The Chief Minister said that the matter has been sent to the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) for a detailed investigation of this delay, so that the reasons for the delay and the responsible officers can be identified. He clarified that the present government is taking these projects forward with transparency, clear financial arrangements and accountability.
In this series, the elevated corridor and underpass to be built on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road (MB Road) will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, a double-decker integrated structure will be built from Saket G-Block to Sangam Vihar, which will reduce the traffic pressure on this busy route to a great extent. After the completion of the project, traffic between Saket, Ambedkar Nagar, Khanpur, Sangam Vihar and Pul Prahladpur will become smoother and faster.
