India Post has introduced a new premium express service called “24 Speed Post”aimed at delivering parcels and documents within 24 hours across major metro cities. The service was launched on March 17, 2026to provide faster and more reliable delivery for urgent consignments and compete with private courier services.
The initiative is part of the Department of Posts’ broader effort to modernise India’s logistics network and improve time-bound parcel delivery for both individuals and businesses.
Guaranteed 24-Hour and 48-Hour Delivery
Under the new system, India Post will offer two express delivery options:
- 24 Speed Post (D+1) – Guaranteed next-day delivery within 24 hours
- 48 Speed Post (D+2) – Delivery within two days
These services are designed for time-sensitive documents and parcelsensuring faster transit between key metro corridors.
To support this system, India Post will use priority air transport and dedicated processing windows to speed up parcel movement between cities.
Service Available in Six Major Cities Initially
In the first phase, the new express delivery service will operate across six metropolitan cities:
- Delhi
- mumbai
- Chennai
- Kolkata
- Bengaluru
- Hyderabad
India Post plans to strengthen parcel movement between these major logistics hubs before expanding the service to more cities in the future.
OTP Delivery and SMS Tracking for Security
The new service introduces several digital features aimed at improving reliability and customer experience.
One of the most important features is OTP-based secure deliverywhere the recipient must provide a one-time password before receiving the parcel. This helps ensure that packages reach the correct person.
Customers will also receive real-time SMS alerts and end-to-end trackingallowing them to monitor the progress of their shipment during transit.

India Post has also added several features designed for e-commerce companies and enterprise customersincluding:
