Congress’s first list released, names of 55 candidates announced –
Tezzbuzz Desk – Political activities have intensified regarding the assembly elections to be held in Kerala. To gain power in the state, all the political parties are preparing to enter the election field with full force. Meanwhile, Congress has released the first list of its candidates for the upcoming assembly elections on Tuesday (17 March). Names of 55 candidates have been included in this first list of the party.
Expressing confidence in the experience and continuity in this list, Congress has given tickets again to 20 sitting MLAs. Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Ramesh Chennithala has been fielded from Haripad seat, while leader of opposition V.D. Satheesan has been made the candidate from Paravur seat. Whereas Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President Sunny Joseph has been given ticket from Peravoor.
The party has also expressed confidence in many prominent faces. Chandy Omman, son of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, has been fielded from Puthupalli seat. Chandy Omman is currently the MLA from this seat. Apart from this, Ramya Haridas from Chirayinkeezhu seat and senior leader K. Muraleedharan has been given ticket from Vattiyoorkavu seat.
The Central Election Committee (CEC) of Congress gave the final approval to the names of all these candidates in the meeting held on Tuesday. Along with this, the party has also made changes at the organizational level to strengthen the election preparations. Pranab Vacchrajani has been given the responsibility of coordinating the election activities of the social media department of Kerala Congress as the national coordinator and Vipin Yadav as the national coordinator.
The Election Commission has recently announced the dates of Kerala Assembly elections. Voting will be conducted for all 140 assembly seats in the state in a single phase. Voting will be held in Kerala on 9th April, while the results will be declared after counting of votes on 4th May.
According to the election schedule, election notification will be issued on March 16. Candidates will be able to file nominations till March 23, while scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 24. The last date for withdrawal of names has been fixed as March 26. According to the Election Commission, the total number of voters in the state is around 2.70 crore.
Let us tell you that the tenure of the current Kerala Assembly is ending on 23 May 2026. The last assembly elections were held in the year 2021, in which the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan registered a landslide victory and captured 99 out of 140 seats. In such a situation, this time’s election is also being considered very important from the point of view of the politics of the state.
