Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) issued a statement on Tuesday suspending three MLAs involved in cross voting. “We have suspended three MLAs—Ramesh Jena, Dashrathi Gamango and Sophia Firdous—for alleged anti-party activities during the Rajya Sabha elections. They violated the party whip and voted in favor of a BJP-backed candidate, thereby breaking party discipline and harming the interests of the Congress. This suspension is with immediate effect,” the state unit of the Congress said in a statement.

Earlier, Odisha Congress in-charge Ajay Kumar Lallu said that three MLAs of his party have sold their future. Talking to a news agency, he said, “Today money-power has won, Dilip Rai has not won. Horse trading has taken place, horse-trading has taken place and the MLAs of our party have sold their future.” He said, “The party is not going to spare those MLAs who have betrayed them. They will also be suspended and we will petition the Assembly Speaker to get their memberships cancelled.”

Let us tell you that Odisha Congress was already afraid of horse trading, so they had sent their MLAs to a resort in Bengaluru. Then his strategy did not work. Cross voting took place in the Rajya Sabha elections due to which the fourth seat went out of the hands of Congress. BJP has won two seats and BJD has won one seat. BJP supported independent candidate Dilip Rai has won the fourth seat.
