Delhi: Before the start of IPL 2026, there is an atmosphere of tension in the dressing of Sunrisers Hyderabad, the reason for which is Pat Cummins. According to reports, Ishan is being considered the strongest option for Cummins as captain. If Cummins is not able to be a part of the team in the initial matches of SRH in IPL 2026, then Ishan will be given the responsibility of captaincy.

Even though Ishan has not yet taken the responsibility of captaincy in IPL, his record as a leader has been quite good. He can be seen in the role of captain in India’s domestic events including the Under-19 tournament.

Ishan Kishan’s record as captain

Ishan Kishan led the Indian team in the Under-19 World Cup 2016. Under his leadership the team had traveled till the finals. However, the team had to face defeat at the hands of West Indies in the last round. In this event, Team India won 5 out of 6 matches.

Apart from this, the left-handed wicketkeeper batsman has led his team Jharkhand several times in Ranji Trophy (2018-19, 2024-25). At the same time, Ishan got a chance to lead East Zone in Duleep Trophy (2025-26).

Talking about SRH, which won the IPL trophy in 2016, its first match in IPL 2026 will be against RCB on March 28. This match will be played at RCB’s home ground M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
