Relief for Indian air passengers: Now 60% seats in flights will be free, government’s instructions to all airlines

New Delhi, March 18. The Civil Aviation Ministry has given relief news for Indian passengers traveling by air. In this sequence, the government has directed all the airlines to ensure that they provide at least 60 percent seats in every flight without any extra charges, so that everyone can get equal opportunity.

This information has been given in an official press release of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Till now, only a few seats were made available to passengers for free while booking tickets or checking-in for flights online. According to the release, the government has also issued several other instructions for airlines to strengthen passenger convenience, transparency and uniformity in functioning.

Now you will sit together

  • Another important directive of the government to airlines is that if passengers have booked their tickets under the same PNR (Passenger Name Record), then they should be seated together. In such cases, passengers are likely to be seated next to each other as the government says this should be given preference.
  • The transportation of sporting goods and musical instruments must be handled in a clear and passenger-friendly manner, subject to safety and operating rules. Airlines should also publish clear policies regarding carrying pets.
  • Passengers’ rights must be strictly observed, especially in cases of flight delays, flight cancellations and denied boarding.
  • Passengers’ rights should be clearly displayed on airline websites, mobile apps, booking platforms and airport counters.
  • Clear information about passengers’ rights and facilities should be shared in regional languages to increase accessibility and awareness among all.
