Babar Azam played in T20 World Cup despite injury

According to the report of news agency PTI, a close source has said that after the T20 World Cup, when Britain’s sports medicine expert Dr. Javed Mughal examined both the players, he expressed concern. In particular, Babar’s injury turned out to be more serious than expected, while Fakhar was also suffering from a similar problem for several months. The matter came to light when after the World Cup, Babar refused to play the National T20 Championship due to a strain in his leg muscles. Fakhar was also troubled by fitness issue.

Physio accused

According to sources, the selectors made it clear to the medical panel that they had selected both of them in the team only after getting the approval from the physio. But now it is also being said that earlier too the physios have been allowing players to play despite minor injuries. Currently, Babar is rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy and it is expected that he will be seen captaining Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League. At the same time, Fakhar Zaman recently said that he was not completely fit during the Bangladesh series, but is now ready for the T20 tournament.

Selectors had already decided to drop Babar

According to sources, the selectors had already made up their mind to drop Babar due to his poor form. The issue of injury came to light later. Babar is going through bad form these days and his bat has remained silent for some time. He has not been able to live up to the expectations in every major tournament like Asia Cup, Champions Trophy and now T20 World Cup. This is the reason why now the confidence of Pakistani selectors in him is also decreasing.

If we look at the statistics, this year in T20, Babar has scored only 167 runs in 7 matches and during this his average has been only 27 and strike rate has been only 117.6. Even in ODI, his performance was nothing special. In the year 2025, he scored only 544 runs at an average of 34 and strike rate of 77.16.
