Govt steps in as ‘Sarke Chunar’ controversy escalates

The controversy around the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from KD: The Devil is getting bigger, and now officials have started looking into it after people complained that the song has vulgar and sexually suggestive stuff.

As per a report by India Todaythe Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has told the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to check the issue and take proper steps.

It is being said that if the claims turn out to be true, the board might ask to remove the song from different media platforms.

The song features Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, and many people have criticised it.

Some critics said the lyrics, visuals, and dance moves are inappropriate, promote vulgarity, and objectify women. They also feel it could negatively affect young viewers.

Officials also hinted that rules to monitor obscene or objectionable content in films and music videos might become stricter.

If needed, changes in the current film certification rules could be made to stop such content from spreading.

The matter got more attention when the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) wrote a letter to the CBFC and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, asking for quick action.

In the letter, the association called it a “serious public issue” and said the song has double-meaning content and does not match the decency standards expected in Indian cinema. It also mentioned that this is becoming a worrying trend where songs are made mainly to create controversy and get publicity.

AICWA has demanded that the song should be banned and removed from online and TV platforms, and also asked authorities to review the film’s certification.
